19 August 2010 -- The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) is taking part in a multilateral naval exercise, codenamed KAKADU, off the coast of Darwin, Australia, from 16 Aug to 3 Sep 2010. Hosted by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), the exercise aims to enhance interoperability among naval forces in the region.

Participating in the three-week long Exercise KAKADU 2010 are the RSN's Formidable-class frigate RSS Tenacious for the first time, and missile corvette RSS Vigour. During the exercise, the RSN ships will be conducting naval manoeuvres as well as anti-air, anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare training exercises together with warships, submarines and aircraft from Australia, Japan, New Zealand and Thailand. Observers from India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea are present at the exercise.

This year’s exercise is the tenth in the KAKADU series which was first held in 1993. Through the exercise, the RSN and the RAN have strengthened interoperability and enhanced mutual understanding among their personnel. The two navies enjoy warm ties and engage in a wide range of activities, including other multilateral and bilateral exercises. The exercise also underscores the good working relationship and professional cooperation between the RSN and the other exercise participants.
